Money Habits and Attitudes

A few years ago, during one of my money research marathons, I came across a unique way that one can evaluate their relationship to money. It is in the form of a deck of cards titled, “Money Habitudes.” This method of targeting your habits and attitudes about money was developed by Syble Solomon.
The deck includes an information sheet and 65 cards:

54 Playing Cards that are divided into six types indicating the money habitudes. Cards show statements such as, “When someone does something nice for me, I feel I owe him or her.” And, “I have more freedom because I have a spending plan and a savings plan.”

Blue Information & Discussion cards. Side 2: Sorting cards for Money Habitudes Solitaire.

8 Yellow Interpretation Cars. Side 2: Suggestions for addressing challenges of each type.

The Six Money Habitudes are as follows:
1.
Targeted Goals: Money helps you feel confident to achieve your goals.
2. Security: Money helps you feel safe and secure. You can never have enough money!
3. Spontaneous: Money encourages you to enjoy the moment.
4. Selfless: Money helps you feel good by giving to others.
5. Free Spirit: Money isn’t a priority. You just let life happen.
6. Status: Money helps you present a positive image.

Now reread those titles once again. Do you see yourself in any of them at first glance? After going through all of the cards, you may surprise yourself at the revelation of your relationship with money.
These cards are great conversation starters. Money is a tough topic to broach and any product that can ease the tension somewhat is welcome, especially when you are trying to get people to face the truth about themselves relative to finances.
